Allscape Donates $10,000 to Elon Homes for Children! We are proud to give back to our community!

Allscape is very proud to announce our contribution to Elon Homes for Children. Mitch Phillips presented the check to Elon’s representative on Monday, October 16, 2006 at Allscape’s Golf Tournament. Construction of the new and critically needed multipurpose educational center at Elon Homes for Children in south Charlotte will begin in late November 2006. The multipurpose center, that includes a gymnasium, will house physical education, aerobics, strength training, weight management, basketball, volleyball and other activities. In addition, the gym will open a myriad of opportunities for after school, weekend and summer school enrichment. A workout/weight lifting room will enhance the health, nutrition and fitness curriculum. National statistics show that 18% of children in America are obese or morbidly obese. The Duke Endowment statistics show that 34% of children in children’s homes are obese or morbidly obese. The gymnasium, along with better nutrition and diet education will address this very serious personal and social health problem.

The gymnasium includes a concession stand that will be managed and operated by students in the vocational program with staff support. In addition to the on-campus Kennedy Charter Public School student basketball games Elon Homes will invite churches and other civic groups to use the facility for sports activities. There should be considerable use of the concession stand. Students will have the opportunity to acquire skills in budgeting, planning, marketing, customer service, and supervision. Students working in the concession stand will be required to interview for the job and demonstrate appropriate work habits such as proper grooming, showing up on time for work, and working well with co-workers and customers.
